BEYOND THE PARTY SCENE

Water is often hailed as the potion of life. It’s a statement that holds more truth than we might realize. “The best cure for anything is water,” is what our CEO always says, and rightly so. On our blue planet, water is the main source that sustains life. Every liquid we consume, from the refreshing beverages to the morning cup of coffee, has water as its base. But while some people maintain a healthy lifestyle and look down upon those who indulge in the party life, it’s crucial to understand that choosing to abstain from parties doesn’t automatically equate to health.

Let’s talk about energy drinks, a popular choice among party-goers and students alike. These beverages are often consumed for that extra boost of energy, but at what cost?

Energy drinks are beverages that typically contain high amounts of caffeine, added sugars, and other additives. They also include legal stimulants like guarana, taurine, and L-carnitine. While these stimulants can increase alertness and energy, they also have the potential to raise blood pressure, heart rate, and even affect breathing.

In 2011, a staggering 1,499 teenagers ages 12 to 17 found themselves in the emergency room due to complications related to energy drink consumption. Some of the potential dangers of these drinks include dehydration, heart complications like irregular heartbeat and heart failure, anxiety, and even insomnia.

The American Academy of Pediatrics has clearly stated that caffeine and other stimulant substances present in energy drinks have no place in the diet of children and adolescents. Yet, reports suggest that between 30–50% of adolescents consume these drinks.

While energy drinks might offer a temporary boost, they come with a large amount of potential health risks. On the other hand, water is a natural source that hydrates the body, aids in digestion, and keeps our systems running smoothly. The sugar from energy drinks can rot your teeth over time, while water remains a neutral and beneficial choice.

It’s crucial to make informed choices about what we put into our bodies. While the party life might seem enticing, and energy drinks promise instant energy, it’s extremely important to weigh the pros and cons. Water remains the best source for the human body, offering numerous health benefits without any of the risks associated with other beverages. So, the next time you reach for a drink (especially if you want to flush out toxins from your body), remember this: “The best cure for anything is water.”
